The Betfair King George VI Chase is one of the most prestigious events in the Jumps racing calendar, often considered the mid-season championship for elite chasers.
Held during the festive season, King George day is the highlight of a thrilling programme of top-tier Jump racing, drawing large crowds and offering a spectacular day of entertainment.
The King George VI Chase, a flat three-mile race, was inaugurated in 1937 to honor the new monarch, King George. It boasts a distinguished history, with notable winners such as Desert Orchid, who triumphed four times (1986, ’88, ’89, and ’90), and Kauto Star, who made history by winning four consecutive years (2006, ’07, ’08, ’09).
In addition to the King George VI Chase, the day features two other Grade 1 races: the William Hill Christmas Hurdle (2 miles) and the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase (3 miles). These races are among the most prestigious in the mid-season schedule.
