Newmarket’s July meeting is one of the most cherished summer festivals in the British racing calendar, offering top-class sport in a picturesque and timeless setting.
Unlike Newmarket’s other major meetings, this three-day event takes place on the distinctive July course, which hosts all of the town’s summer race meetings.
The highlight of the July Festival is the six-furlong Darley July Cup, a key contest in the race for the European sprint crown. This Group 1 race has a prestigious history and attracts competitors from around the world.
Other notable races include several Group 2 events for two-year-olds, the mile-and-a-half Arqana Princess of Wales’s Stakes, and the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes over a mile for fillies.
With its thatched-roof buildings, tree-lined public areas, and open-air bars, the July course provides a delightful summer venue. The meeting has a garden-party atmosphere and, like other major British racing events, features a strong sense of fashion.
