Today marks the start of the English international cricketing summer. England’s first test matches since the Ashes and the disapointing winter down under. New Zealand are the visitors bringing a tough challenge for the English ‘Kiwis’ in Stokes and Mcculum.

Lords Cricket Ground – Breaking History

Lord’s will become the first cricket ground in the world to host 150 Tests this week. The home of cricket is a special place for the cricketing family, playing host to some of the most remembrle fixtures over the years.

Hosting pivotal moments!

Who could forget the pivotal moment of the 2023 Ashes. Jonny Bairstow stumped, Alex Carey
Jonny leaving a delivery from Cameron Green, quick scratch then setting of down the wicket fully expecting the end of the over. Within one fell swoop Alex Carey threw the stumps down the Aussies appealed, and the umpires conveened to give Jonny out Stumped. Spirit of cricket was discussed and pandomonium within the members lounge ensued. By law it was out. The cricketing world had heated discussions with high profile personalities getting involved.
The controversary created the platform for an entertaining couple of hours after tea with Stuart Broad reminding every Australian within ear shot of his thoughts. Stokes played a another of his inspiring knocks but ultimately fell short. The Australians won the test, but the discussion is still voiced today.

Graham Gooch’s iconic 333, which contributed to his record-breaking aggregate score of 456 in the match against India at Lord’s in 1990, was voted as the greatest ever individual performance at the Home of Cricket in 2014.
At the time, the innings was the sixth highest score in Test cricket, and the third highest by an Englishman, behind Len Hutton’s 364 and Wally Hammond’s 336 not out.
Gooch batted for more than ten and a half hours, faced 485 balls, hit 43 fours and three sixes. It inspired England to their first instance of winning successive Tests since 1985.
England went on to win a match that included another five centuries by 247 runs, but it is Gooch’s knock that will live long in the memory for those who were fortunate enough to witness it.

A special feature of Lords are the honours boards situated in both home and away dressing rooms. Descriped as the holy grail of cricket, every player to grace the hallowed turf hopes to have there name upon.
Derek Underwood holds the most apprearences on the 10 wickets in a match board with 2.
Joe Root has scored a record 8 Test centuries at the ground. The Indian Dilip Vengsarkar is the only overseas player to have scored 3 Test centuries at the ground.
The first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match at Lord’s was England’s Ted Peate in 1884 who finished with bowling figures of 6 wickets for 85 runs (6/85), bowling in the first innings of the first Test match played on the ground. Australia’s Joey Palmer and England’s George Ulyett both took five-wicket hauls during the same match

Charlie managed to grace the Home of cricket, representing Leeds Bradford University in the championship final. Not quite the test match status, but a day he will never forget. Top scoring in the match with 35, as well as hitting his first ball for six!
