Where history, charm and topâclass racing come together

When people think of British horse racing, names like Ascot, Aintree, Epsom and Cheltenham usually spring to mindâand with good reason. But nestled in the heart of North Yorkshire lies one of the sportâs most picturesque treasures: Ripon Racecourse, fondly known as Yorkshireâs Garden Racecourse.
Racing has been part of Riponâs heritage since 1664, making it one of Englandâs oldest racing venues. Early events took place on Bondgate Green before the racecourse settled at its current home on Boroughbridge Road in 1900, where the first official meeting was held on 6 August.
Ripon also claimed a notable place in sporting history in 1723, hosting the first-ever race exclusively for female jockeysâa remarkable milestone showcasing the venueâs forward-thinking spirit.
